WISD News & Notes
We will begin offering WISD On-Campus on Monday, Sept. 14!
Whether you have chosen for your child to return to on-campus learning on Monday, Sept. 14 or may choose for your child to return to campus at the beginning of any grading period during the 2020-21 school year, this special edition of WISD News & Notes contains important information for on-campus learners. We are excited to re-open our school doors and welcome students back!
Online or On-Campus?
On. Sept. 9, parents/guardians and students should have received an email from Waller ISD with the subject line "WISD 1st Grading Period Selection" from no_reply@wallerisd.net. This email confirms your selection from Sept. 14-25. The next opportunity to change your selection will be for the 2nd grading period (Sept. 28-Oct. 30). Details for the reselection process are included below. If you did not receive the email or are unsure of your selection for the 1st grading period, please contact your child's school.
Note: If you are the parent/guardian of multiple students and made different learning platform selections for each, you may have received both online and on-campus confirmation emails.
Video Intros: On-Campus Protocols
We have created on-campus introduction videos for each of our campuses that highlight some of the health and safety precautions for the 2020-2021 school year. Note: These videos summarize on-campus protocols; they do not encompass all details. Detailed On-Campus Protocols
Don't Forget: Mask, Water Bottle, & Device!
In order to help protect your student's health, they will need to bring their face mask, a water bottle, and a device such as Chromebook or iPad with them to and from school daily.
STUDENT DEVICES: Whether your child will be using a WISD-issued or personal device, they will need to bring their device with them to and from school daily. It will be used as a learning tool in classrooms. Please be sure the device is charged each evening and ready for school each day. Students should also bring their charger to school daily. To protect the device during transport, we recommend wrapping it in a soft cloth from home or purchasing an inexpensive protective sleeve. If you still need a WISD-issued device, please call 936.931.0313 for an appointment.
Bell Schedules
There are new bell schedules during the 2020-2021 school year to allow for a 3-tier bus system that will accommodate the need for social distancing on buses due to COVID-19. WISD 2020-2021 School Calendar
Route Information for Bus Riders
WISD Transportation is also working hard to keep our students safe and healthy on their way to/from school. If you have selected for your child to ride the bus, find estimated pick-up/drop-off times HERE. If you have any questions, please call WISD Transportation at 936.372.2116.
Elementary Bus Riders
Parents/Guardians of elementary bus riders, please be aware that as we adjust to new schedules this school year some buses may depart from our campuses later than usual. DETAILS
SMART Tag
On their first day at school, all students will receive a SMART Tag that should remain attached to their backpack or lanyard at all times during the school year. This tag will be used when students load and unload a school bus during regular A.M. or P.M. routes. If your child is not a regular rider, it is still important to have the tag in case bus services are ever needed. The Parent Portal portion of SMART Tag allows parents/guardians to receive notifications for when their child's bus is nearing its stop.
Elementary Car Riders
Parents/guardians of elementary bus riders, please check your email for your car rider ID number. You will need this information when you pick up your child from school for the first time. Questions? Contact your child's campus.
Transportation Change Request
Parents who choose WISD On-Campus for their child will also be asked “Will your child require Waller ISD Transportation to/from school?” This selection is important as WISD Transportation works to keep students socially distanced on school buses. If a change is needed to this selection at any time during the school year, parents/guardians must complete the Transportation Change Request Form. DETAILS
Campus Visitor Information
Parents and guardians are normally welcome on our campuses with open arms, however due to current health conditions no visitors are allowed during arrival, dismissal, lunches, or other activities. Campus leaders will be working with families on how they can help from home. Administrators and teachers will be meeting with families via Zoom and on-campus by appointment only. Please call your child's school before you visit. Health pre-screening, masks, and social distancing is required for all approved visitors.
Family Contact Information Update
WISD requires all families to update their child's information in Skyward annually. This includes information for parents/guardians and emergency contacts. Due to COVID-19, this is especially important for the 2020-2021 school year. Please complete your student's annual info update in Skyward HERE.
Register Online or By Appointment ONLY
To help protect the health and safety of the WISD family by minimizing visitors, registration is online or by appointment only; no walk-ins. Registration is open for all grade levels. DETAILS
Online/On-Campus Reselection Information & Guidelines
The next opportunity to change your child's learning platform will be effective for the 2nd grading period, Sept. 28-Oct. 30. Parents/guardians will be able to submit their change preference through an online form Sept. 11-18.
